How to get to the Rajadamnern Boxing Stadium

The way to the Rajadamnern Boxing Stadium is a bit cumbersome, there is no direct way with the well-known BTS or MRT tracks. If you drive with the BTS, you can do that to Ratchathewi Station and get into a taxi or tuk tuk. From there it is still about 2km.

Opening Hours & Tickets

The opening hours vary depending on the event. The official website www.rajadamnern.com shows the current dates and times. The ticket prices are stated on the website from 1000 to 2000 Baht, depending on how close or removed you are from the ring, and the prices rise accordingly.

There are usually no problems when photographing during the fights. We even did that very extensively and there were no protests. For each event there is also a program booklet, with an overview of the fights. And there is also a note that video recordings are prohibited.

Control

With the construction of the Rajadamnern Boxing Stadium was started in March 1941 (foundation stone was laid) and was not completed as planned, because during the Second World War, the construction project had to be interrupted, there was not enough building material. The construction was already very advanced at this time, so that with the resumption of the construction in August 1945 only 4 months were needed to complete the stadium.

Before the fight starts

Muay Thai Boxing is a traditional sport that moves spectators. Before a fight, the two fighters enter the ring and hold their ritual. They go around in the ring and demonstrate their presence. But it is much more than a show and to impress the opponent before the fight. Rather, it's about showing their devotion to the teacher who taught them martial arts. As the fighters gather, they also honor Thai values such as faith in the Buddha, the royal family and the ancestors.

Full of concentration.

A fight usually goes over 5 rounds and each round takes 3 minutes. 15 minutes does not sound like much, but the fighters are fully focused and highly motivated in the fights to show their best and win.

Tactics.

Who thinks Thai boxers would indiscriminately strike it, is wrong, or has seen too many bad movies. A certain tactic is always present in boxing, which is not different in Thai boxing. The boxers observe the opponent, trying to discover the weaknesses of the opponent and show their own strengths. Thai Boxing is not a game of chess, it is clearly down to business.

The Fights.

If you look at the fighters, you will see well trained bodies. Many Thai people learn Thai boxing as being childs and have many years of experiences. The already mentioned tactics / strategy is only a small part of the fight, of course a fight is characterized by the ability of the boxers. In addition, there are the techniques that make Thai Boxing, in contrast to conventional boxing is not only fought with the hands, elbows, knees and kicks are part of the Thai Boxing.

The Winner.

When a fight comes to an end, there is often no fighting in the last 20 to 30 seconds, because both fighters already know that there is a (definite) winner. The fights themselves are extremely fair. Not infrequently, there is a KO victory, often an unmediated hit is enough and the opponent goes down. The fighters pay attention to the opponent and in a knockout strike the fighters always look like the other, the health of the opponent is as important as the respect.
